Well, we are already more than half way through September of 2021. How have you been doing with your budget and/or tracking expenses?
Has it been more difficult than you originally considered? That is pretty common. When making new habits, we often have difficulties. Consider what your difficulties are and how you may work to resolve them moving forward:
It's hard to look at the budget every day.
- Consider placing the budget or a reminder in your home where you can see it every day.
- Think about what goes through your mind when you go to look at the budget. Are those thoughts helpful?
You haven't been sticking to your budget.
- Sit down and write the reasons why you haven't been sticking to it.
- Pick one set of reasons and develop a strategy to eliminate those reasons only.
These are just two possibilities of difficulties you may have. There can and likely will be others. I encourage you to look them head on. Make time during the week to face these difficulties. I can attest that avoiding them by thinking of other things or moving to something more easily doable doesn't make the issues go away. You can make them go away by willfully dealing with them.
All of that said, if you have been doing well with tracking expenses and looking at your budget every day, excellent! Well done! Keep it up until you start to feel something is off if you don't look at the budget or track an expense. That will be a big turning point in you taking more control of your financial future!
